Sustainable shipping
Until now, we have used recycled cardboard envelopes for our shipping packaging as much as possible. After all, an envelope is more compact than a cardboard box, which helps reduce CO2 emissions during transport, and the cardboard is also recyclable. However, cardboard packaging doesn’t last long.
The packaging is still suitable for a return shipment, but after that, it reaches the end of its life cycle. Of course, our (sustainable) customers then put the packaging with the waste paper so that the cardboard can be recycled again.
And while recycling is obviously a great idea, recycling cardboard remains a very energy-intensive process that uses a lot of water.
There's always room for improvement
As a sustainable webshop, we want to go further than just fair materials and responsible production. Packaging is also part of the chain, and that’s exactly where there’s still a lot to be gained. Every cardboard envelope or box that is only used once is one too many. That’s why we’re choosing a circular alternative. In collaboration with Boxo, a supplier of reusable packaging, it will soon be possible to have your order sent in reusable packaging.
How does it work?
When making your purchase in our webshop, you can choose between traditional cardboard packaging or sustainable reusable packaging. At checkout, you pay a deposit for the reusable packaging. After you’ve received your order, you can drop off your packaging at one of the many collection points and get your deposit back immediately.
Although hard work is being done to achieve national coverage of return points, this isn’t the case everywhere yet. To prevent you from having to return your packaging a long distance away—which is obviously not good for the environment—we have disabled this option in those areas.
Social impact
By choosing reusable packaging, you’re not just helping the environment. The packaging is made and cleaned with great pleasure by people with a distance to the labor market. So, your choice doesn’t just have positive consequences for the environment, but also a major positive social impact.
